Until Last Man
The spirit of war is inside me
The lust for blood - that defines me
To be human is to be violent
We are to be each others nightmares
Look into my eyes and fear me
Put your hands around my throat and kill me
Rip out my beating heart and eat it
You want my life - then keep it
Eye for an eye
Tooth for a tooth
Vengeance is right
Mercy's for fools
Cicle of hate
Snake eats own tail
It will not break
Until last man
Sink teeth in my flesh
Make me feel it
Choke on my bloodlust
Devoir my spirit
Always the warrior
Way of the killing
We cherish the death
More than the living
Eye for an eye
Tooth for a tooth
Vengeance is right
Mercy's for fools
Cicle of hate
Snake eats own tail
It will not break
Until last man
I don't call for war or killing
Sometimes dance is just a dance
History of men is written with blood
You start another war cause you believe it
Yes we are beasts but that is not all
And I for one know
That it is with love that we grow
That it is with love that we grow
Eye for an eye
Tooth for a tooth
Vengeance is right
Mercy's for fools
Cicle of hate
Snake eats own tail
It will not break
Until last man
Look into my eyes and see me
Put your hands on my chest and feel me
Embrace the pain in my heart and heal it
You want life in peace - then make it
I know it is with love that we grow
I know it is with love that we grow
I know it is with love that we grow
This verse is done with throat singing technique to give an impression of a ritualistic warsong.
While the opening verse is kinda general, I wanted this one to be feral and feel almost personal. That's why all the violence is concentrated on the subject.
Obvious call to Code of Hammurabi.
Ouroboros - the symbol of snake eating it's own tail has many interpretation, often positive - like cycle of LIFE. I twisted it a little bit for my dark purposes here.
This line is tricky and to this day I am not quite sure if it works. I wanted listener to visualise biting someone so hard that mouth fills with victim's blood. At the same time I did a wordplay - to choke on bloodLUST - to point out that both parties in this fight are full of hate and desire to murder.
Some tribes believed that when you kill a warrior, you take possession of his spirit and strength.
This is a reference to the Native American ceremony of 'Ghost Dance'. The fear of this ritual uniting people in distress led to the tragic massacre of Wounded Knee. By the way, none of the bandmembers could figure this one out but to be honest - they didn't really try. Fuck you guys.
These two lines are what started the idea of this song in my head. I got tired of listening how people are meant to fight, that we have to kill, this is our nature, blah blah blah. This is just what tyrants say and are so happy we believe this. I call it bullshit. We are fucking more than that.
This is a reintepretation of second verse, now aiming not towards violence against each other, but for peace, undestanding and healing. It is sang with a more despaired tone as it is a cry of hope.
