We all care
All my life, since I was a child
I followed the rules, never stepped out of the line
I drowned in the belief that everything was done right
That the world we create was just fine
As it turned out that was a lie
Society has a nice facade but it's broken inside
We keep our heads high so we can't see
We're constantly drowning in the fucking quicksand
We all know
That the problems we face need a response
We all cry
For everything that's wrong and should be put right
We all say
That we are quickly running out of time
We all care
Just not enough
We're being mindful of our world
Yet only as far as the tip of the nose
And I am speaking from a high horse
but to be fair, I am guilty as well
We need to do something
Well best I can do is be anxious
We need to act quickly
Well best I can do is act helpless
We all know
That the problems we face need a response
We all cry
For everything that's wrong and should be put right
We all say
That we are quickly running out of time
We all care
Just not enough
I'm so tired of trying to save
the world that's so indifferent it's dying
We all know
That the problems we face need a response
We all cry
For everything that's wrong and should be put right
We all say
That we are quickly running out of time
We all care
We just don't care
I think when we grow up,we start to see the cracks in the system. Specially in our teen years we feel it, then we somehow get used to it a bit again.
Climate crisis is often visually compared to a frog sitting in a slowly boiling water. I wanted to find some other metaphore which captures it in a similar way. While it is not specified in the song that it is about climate crisis and it could resonate with different global problems, this is what I had in mind when writing it.
The main thought of the song derives from many conversations I had concerning the problem. The fact that people don't care is something commonly heard. I don't think it is entirely true. I observe that people do care actually, but they fail to act. Maybe if they cared a little bit more, it would change the world.
I think that these are the problems many activists face. Feeling lost, anxious, furious and helpless while the crisis is upon us. It is also something that can stop us from acting on the problem
Many activists and environmentalists have to face the exhaustion. Not seeing enough improvement, facing disagreements and even hostilities make many people want to give up
While this line may seem to contradict the main statement of the song, it is more of an emotional cry, than an intelectual one. Because if we don't care enough, we won't impact the world the way we want and should. And to be honest, in that case, we might as well not give a shit at all.
